BENGALURU: Following the hijab controversy and calls for a ban on Muslim vendors from temple fairs, right-wing parties in Karnataka are now demanding a ban on halal products. A social media campaign is underway to encourage people to avoid buying meat from Muslim vendors in the state.

The Hindu Jagruthi Samithi, Srirama Sene, Bajarang Dal, and other right-wing organisations have demanded that halal certification be removed from the sign boards of meat-selling establishments. They've also asked Hindus to avoid buying halal-cut beef. Instead, they advise Hindus to purchase meat that has been sliced using the Hindu traditional manner of 'Jhatka.'

Sriram Sene founder Pramod Muthalik stated on Wednesday that halal chopped meat should be boycotted in the state and across the country. "Money intended for halal items is diverted to anti-national activities. The funds raised here will be utilised to free terrorist organisation members who have been imprisoned." "During the Shaheen Bagh demonstration, one of the leaders of the Popular Front of India (PFI) had Rs 15 crore transferred to his account. Hindus were taxed by Muslim monarchs Akbar and Aurangzeb, who governed India "he insisted.

Meanwhile, members of the Hindu Jagruthi Samithi have had 'halal cut available' sign boards removed from three stores in Bengaluru's Vijayanagar. Banners have been up in Nelamangala, on the outskirts of Bengaluru, urging people to dine only at Hindu establishments.

C.T. Ravi, the BJP's National General Secretary and MLA, endorsed the appeal, saying that if Muslims can issue a statement stating that they will only use halal chopped meat, what is wrong if others do not? The communal peace is not a one-sided affair. He stated that it should also come from the other side.
