Bangalore: A Hindu right-wing group in Karnataka has announced to launch a campaign against the purchase of Halal meat. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti on Monday said meat cut as per Islamic practices cannot be offered to Hindu deities. Mohan Gowda, spokesperson of the organization said, “During Ugadi, there is a lot of buying of meat and we are starting a campaign against Halal meat. According to Islam, Halal meat is first offered to Allah, after which it cannot be offered to Hindu gods.

Let us inform that this statement of the committee has come at a time when there is already a controversy regarding the ban on hijab in Karnataka. The Basavaraj Bommai-led BJP government is being accused of promoting polarization in the southern state. Mohan Gowda said that, 'Every time Muslims bite an animal, its face is turned towards Mecca and prayers are offered. In such a situation, the same meat cannot be offered to Hindu deities. In Hinduism, we do not believe in torturing an animal and it is killed with a blow (sharp).'

The same organization has demanded non-Hindu businessmen and shopkeepers not to be allowed to enter the temple function in the state's Udupi. Now this demand has also started rising for annual fairs and religious functions held in temples located in other parts of the state. It started with the annual Kaup Marigudi festival held in Udupi district where posters were put up saying non-Hindu shopkeepers and businessmen should not be allowed. Similar banners are now seen in the Padbidari temple festival and also in some temples of Dakshina Kannada district.
