Karni Sena founder Lokendra Singh Kalvi dies at 80 in Jaipaur

Jaipur: Karni Sena founder Lokendra Singh Kalvi died at the age of 68 in Jaipur's Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital. He passed away late on Monday night. On March 14 at 2:15 pm, his final rituals will be conducted in his native cillage of Nagaur.

Following a brain stoke, Lokendra Singh Kalvi had been receiving therapy for a while. He has been receiving treatment in the hospital since June 2022 after experiencing a brain stroke, according to Dr. Achal Sharma, Superintendent of SMS Hospital.

Shree Rajput Karni Sena, an organisation with a stronghold in Jaipur that is recognised for When the group attacked Padmavati director Sanjay Leela Bhansali in 2018 on the set of the movie for allegedly portraying Deepika Padukone's character Rani Padmini in "bad light," the organisation gained notoriety. To protect what he views as the cultural foundation of his society, the Karni Sena was founded.

He was the son of former Rajasthani cabinet member Kalyan Singh Kalvi, who served as the state's minister of agriculture when Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was its chief executive. In 2008, Lokendra Singh Kalvi joined the Congress in the hopes of receiving a nomination, although the group did not do so. In advance of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Kalvi teamed up with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

Kalvi ran for the Lok Sabha from the Barmer-Jaisalmer seat, but his first election campaign was unsuccessful. Incidentally, his father Kalyan Singh Kalvi was chosen to represent the same constituency in the House of Representatives.

Lokendra Singh Kalvi started the Rajput caste organisation Shri Rajput Karni Sena (SRKS) in 2006. The Karni Sena has its headquarters in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and its primary hubs are in the districts of Jaipur, Nagaur, and Sikar.

Lokendra Singh Kalvi founded the Karni Sena after working with BJP rebel leader Devi Singh Bhati to create a social justice forum. The forum entered the political mainstream in 2003 by running in the Rajasthan assembly elections.

Karni Sena held massive protests against Ashutosh Gowariker's film Jodhaa Akbar in 2008. Jodhaa-Akbar could not be released in Rajasthan becuse ofopposition. In 2018, the organisation opposed the film Padmavati, for allegedly showing Rani Padmini in “poor light”.
