Kathak dancer and cine actress Sitara Devi was born on this day. She was known for her Kathak. She was a great Kathak dancer. It is said that she wanted to learn dance since childhood, but when her father wanted to teach her dance, people called her a prostitute. At that time Sitara Devi felt very bad but she did not give up her hopes and she emerged as a great Kathak dancer. She later incorporated the Kathak style of the Banaras Gharana into the popular dance style of the world.

At the age of 16, Sitara Devi reached Shanti Niketan to perform her Kathak dance in front of Guru Ravindra Nath Tagore. During that time, he praised Sitara Devi for her art. She had called the 16-year-old star the Kathak Queen. Sitara Devi's personal life was also in the discussions. She had done three marriages to get love but she never got love. She was first married to Nasir Ahmed. After that, she married to Mughal-e-Azam director Asif, but this marriage could not last for long.

After her divorce, Sitara Devi got married to Pratap Barot, brother of Kamal Barot, producer of the film Don. After that, she had a son named Ranjit Barot. Although Sitara is no longer in this world, but people still miss her. Sitara received the Padmashree award. When she was announced to be given the Padma Bhushan, she said that she deserves Bharat Ratna. She died on 25 November 2014.
