Good News for Lord Shiva devotees -  The portals of the holy Himalayan Shrine of Shri Kedarnath in Uttarakhand's Rudraprayag district will open on 17 May. Uttarakhand Char Dham Devasthanam Management Board informed on Thursday.

According to the Devasthanam Board, the idol of Lord Shiva, which was moved to his winter abode Omkareshwar Temple at Ukhimath, will be reinstalled at Kedarnath on May 14 and the doors of Kedarnath Dham will open at 5 am on May 17.

Shri Kedarnath temple, which is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas spread across the country, remains closed for devotees of Lord Shiva for around six months in winter due to heavy snowfall in the region.

The temple is one of the four holy shrines, 'Chardham', situated in Uttarakhand. The other three 'Dhams' are Shri Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri temples.

According to the Uttarakhand information department, the idol of Lord Shiva will leave Ukhimath's Omkareshwar Temple in a palanquin. It should be noted that Lord Kedar is worshipped in the Omkareshwar Temple during winter.
