NEW DELHI: Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Chief Minister, said on Wednesday that Satyendar Jain, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate, should be awarded the Padma Vibhushan for inventing the "mohalla clinics" model, which serves people for free. Kejriwal hailed Jain as a "hardcore honest and patriot" who was framed in a "false case," and expressed hope that the minister would be cleared after the ED probe. Notably, om Arvind Kejriwal's ministry, Jain covers several portfolios, including Health, Power, and Home.
"The country should be proud of him since he established the Mohalla Clinic, which is visited by individuals from all over the world, including the former UN Secretary-General." "I believe he should be given high honours like the Padma Bhushan or Padma Vibhushan," Kejriwal told reporters in New Delhi. The Delhi CM added that now that the CBI has cleared Jain, the ED can undertake its own investigation and the minister will be found not guilty.
A court here on Tuesday ordered Jain to be held in the Enforcement Directorate's custody till June 9 in a money laundering case, stating that his interrogation was necessary to uncover the suspected bigger plot.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader was arrested on Monday by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) under the criminal provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Kejriwal had previously stated that the claims levied against Jain were "absolutely untrue," and that if the charges were even one percent true, he would have taken action against the minister.
