Thiruvananthapuram: 5 people have died due to landslides in Idukki district of Kerala due to heavy rains and floods. This landslide occurred in Rajamla area of the district. Earlier, the officials gave information that it is very difficult to reach the spot. Forest officials and other emergency service personnel have reached the spot.

Officials have told that 70 to 80 people live in this area. According to the latest update, 5 people have died in the incident. The state Health Minister has said that the medical team and 15 ambulances have been dispatched on the spot. State government officials said that a temporary bridge had collapsed in Idukki district due to heavy rains on Thursday. Floodwaters have also been seen in low-lying areas like Munnar, a popular tourist destination due to the rising water level of the Muthirapuzha river in Idukki district.

A day before the Indian Meteorological Department had issued a red alert for Idukki, Wayanad and Kozhikode districts. IMD tweeted on Wednesday that it said, "Heavy rains are expected in Kerala and Mahe (district of Puducherry) from August 5-9".
