Kochi: A month after the incident, the Kerala High Court has granted bail to seven students accused of obstructing Governor Arif Khan's convoy and shouting slogans against him. Justice CS Dias, a single-bench judge, heard the matter and issued the bail on Friday, stemming from the incident that occurred on December 11, 2023, while the Governor was en route to the airport.

The accused allegedly obstructed the Governor's convoy and defied police orders. The incident led Governor Khan to exit his car and express disapproval. Before granting bail, the judge engaged with the students and their parents, with the condition that the petitioners commit to attending classes regularly, obeying their parents, and undergoing counseling to shift their attitudes and mindsets. Additionally, the students must submit quarterly attendance sheets to the jurisdictional courts.

The court's order serves as a reminder that engaging in similar offenses could lead to a reformatory path for students. The court highlighted the importance of addressing underlying causes and fostering constructive dialogue to prevent students from facing harsh consequences. Quoting Malala Yousafzai's statement on education as the best weapon, the court emphasized that the power of knowledge should be embraced for constructive purposes and not destructive actions.
