Kochi: In response to the growing interest in visiting Lakshadweep, Alliance Air has introduced additional flights, providing a boost to tourism amid the ongoing tensions with the Maldives. The Indian airline, being the sole carrier operating to Lakshadweep, will now offer extra flights for the Kochi-Agathi-Kochi route on Sundays and Wednesdays. Lakshadweep, an archipelago known for its stunning landscapes, is exclusively served by Alliance Air, connecting the city of Kochi to Agathi Island in Kerala. The decision to introduce more flights comes as a result of increased inquiries and demand for tickets, with the airline expressing flexibility to further adjust flight schedules to accommodate the rising interest.

Alliance Air, operating a 70-seat aircraft, serves as a crucial link between Kochi and Lakshadweep's Agathi Island, home to the region's only airport. Tickets for existing flights until March have reportedly been sold out, indicating a surge in demand. The move by Alliance Air aims to capitalize on the heightened interest in travel to Lakshadweep. Additionally, SpiceJet has announced plans to initiate flights to Lakshadweep, leveraging special rights granted under the Professional Connectivity Scheme. The tourism push in Lakshadweep gained momentum after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit, where he showcased the picturesque beauty of the islands. However, this surge in interest triggered tensions with the Maldives, leading to some critical statements against India, which the Maldivian government later distanced itself from.

The increased connectivity and focus on Lakshadweep's tourism, supported by additional flights and potential new services, reflect efforts to tap into the region's natural beauty and cultural richness. As the travel industry responds to heightened demand, both Alliance Air and SpiceJet are positioning themselves to cater to the growing influx of visitors to this idyllic destination in the Indian Ocean.
