80 people missing in Kerala landslide, 18 bodies found

Thiruvananthapuram: A traumatic incident took place on Friday in Rajmala area of Idukki district of Kerala. After continuous rains, there was a landslide in the area. The debris of the landslide fell on the laborers working in the tea gardens. 80 workers were buried under the rubble. Till now the bodies of eighteen have been taken out. Red alert has been issued till 9 August in 9 districts including Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.

In this case, the district administration said that three places were built at the place where the landslide took place. Some people reached the Eravikulam National Park check post and they reported the incident. When officers arrived with 2 jeeps at the scene, it was found that all the houses were completely buried under rubble. Only debris and stones were visible there. Only the ground was visible.

In the area where there has been a landslide, there is a lot of difficulty in running the rescue operation. It is also being told that 2 days ago, the temporary bridge of Periyavada area was washed away due to flood, due to which the connectivity of this area was broken by road. Problems are also being faced due to network failure and no electricity. There were also 6 Forest Department employees who lived in the shelter there. Among those whose bodies have been found, the body of a forest department employee has also been found.
