Thiruvananthapuram:The Kerala government mandated the wearing of masks on Wednesday in response to the ever-increasing cases of Coronavirus, and warned that any breaches will be prosecuted. "...orders that masks be worn in all public places, meetings, workplaces, and during transportation throughout the state, in exercise of the powers provided under section 20 (3) of the Disaster Management Act 2005. Violations of the aforesaid orders would be punishable under the DM Act and other applicable laws "By the directive of the state governor, said Dr V P Joy (Chief Secretary).
The decision was made in advance of the country's ever-increasing cases of Covid-19. India has reported 2,927 new cases in the previous 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare earlier in the day.
The number of active cases in the country has also climbed, from 15,636 to 16,279, accounting for 0.04 percent of all cases. According to the ministry, 32 individuals have died as a result of the virus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of Covid-related deaths in the country to 5,23,654.
In India, the daily case positivity rate increased from 0.55 percent on Tuesday to 0.58 percent on Wednesday, while the weekly positivity rate remained at 0.59 percent.
