Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced on Wednesday that the state had been named the best-governed state in the Public Affairs Index (PAI) 2021 released by the Public Affairs Centre.

"We are among the top three states in the index in all major pillars examined, including equity, growth, and sustainability," Vijayan tweeted. The Public Affairs Index (PAI) is a data-based framework that measures the quality of governance at the subnational level and ranks the states of India on a Composite Index, according to the official website of Public Affairs Centre India (CI).

On October 30, the sixth edition of PAI was released. Apart from examining governance performance in the context of sustainable development as defined by the equity, growth, and sustainability pillars, PAI 2021 also examines five Centre-sponsored schemes that support key development parameters such as health, education, and livelihoods (Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, National Health Mission, Integrated Child Development Services, Samagra Siksha Abhiyan, and Midday Meal Scheme). Aside from a Delta Analysis measuring year-over-year performance and Cluster Analysis of states, the report includes a ranking of states based on their performance during the COVID-19 pandemic.
