Kochi: Kerala is facing a double whammy of Zika virus with corona epidemic. Zika virus cases are steadily increasing in the state. 5 more new cases of Zika virus infection have been registered in Kerala. According to state health minister Veena George, the total number of cases has increased to 28 in Kerala after receiving 5 more cases. Two Zika virus cases have been registered in Anayara, one each in Kunnukuzhi, Pattam, and Eastern Fort.

Kerala Health Minister Veena George had said on Wednesday that the area worst affected by Zika virus infection has been identified within a radius of three km of Anaira and steps are being taken to eliminate mosquitoes so that they do not spread to other places. The minister said a control room has also been set up at the district medical office in view of Zika infection in the capital. Zika infection cases are from the same locality. Fogging was decided at a special meeting convened by the health minister on Wednesday to build control rooms and eliminate mosquitoes.

Earlier on Wednesday, the state health minister had said that "a sample of a 16-year-old girl from Thiruvananthapuram was found positive at the Rajiv Gandhi Biotechnology Centre.'' At the same time, a doctor and two others from a private hospital were found to be infected with the Zika virus earlier in the state.
