Buckingham Palace has today unveiled a new family portrait including King Charles III, Queen Consort Camilla, Prince William, and Princess of Wales Kate Middleton in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II's passing on September 8. Members of the royal family are shown smiling warmly in their first group portrait. The four royals are dressed in complete black in the portrait.

On the eve of Queen Elizabeth II's burial, which took place on September 18, the picture was taken at Buckingham Palace. The image was taken on the evening that they entertained foreign leaders who had come to London for the funeral at a reception at Buckingham Palace from which Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were excluded. Previously, on September 10, King Charles formally proclaimed the British king in power.

In addition to introducing William and Kate with their new titles as the Prince and Princess of Wales, the updated photograph was also posted on the Buckingham Palace Instagram account. With Catherine at his side, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and guide our national dialogues, King Charles said in his first speech to the country since the Queen, 96, passed away.

Additionally, the titles of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, which were formerly held by the King and Camilla, the new Queen Consort, have been granted to Prince William and Kate Middleton. While all was going on, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle travelled back to their home in California from the UK after attending the Queen's funeral service.
