New Delhi: Kiran Rijiju, who is considered to be the face of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in North-East India, has been appointed as the new sports minister of the country on Friday. he is appointed in place of Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore. Rijiju PM Narendra Modi's last Cabinet Minister was Home Minister while this time he has been given the Minority Affairs Ministry (Minister of State, Independent Charge) along with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

He took to Twitter and wrote, "I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for believing in me as a member of my Cabinet. I am thankful to Amit Shah ji as well as the workers and well wishers present in India. " Rijiju has said that, "Leadership for me does not mean power and privilege, but responsibility." Meanwhile, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and All India Football Federation (AIFF) congratulated the 47-year-old Rijiju on becoming the Sports Minister.

IOA has tweeted that, "The Indian Olympic Association welcomes the Honorable Kiran Rijiju to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry." AIFF has written that, "Congratulations on the appointment of Kiran Rijiju as a Sports Minister. We hope to work together to make India a better sports country."
