NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) farmers are protesting at the Kisan Garjana Rally in the nation's capital to seek a minimum support price (MSP) for their produce.

It is estimated that more than 100,000 farmers from 560 districts and 60,000 village committees across the nation are reaching to Ramlila Maidan to attend the Kisan Garjana Rally. According to a BKS official statement, the farmers will reach Ramlila Maidan as part of the "Jan Jagran" initiative, which was launched four months ago.

All India campaign chief of BKS, Raghvendra Patel said:  "in the last four months, approximately 20,000 km of foot marches, 13,000 km of cycle rallies, and 18,000 km of street meetings were organised across the country by BKS, including significant gatherings at Southern State Telangana and Madhya Pradesh of Central India" after which this mega rally has been organized at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan today.

"First, remunerative prices should be implemented on the basis of cost and should be guaranteed. Second, the GST should be eliminated on all types of agricultural inputs. Third, the "Kisan Samman Nidhi," a Central Sector programme that receives 100% funding from the Government of India and provides farmers with a minimum income support of up to Rs 6,000 per year, should be substantially increased. The fourth recommendation is to revoke the approval of genetically modified (GM) crops " Raghvendra Patel added.
