Every year, national handloom day 2022 is celebrated on this day i.e. on the 7th of August. On this day, the work of encouraging Indian local handloom is also done. Initiatives are also being taken to take Indian brands and khadi to the world. The purpose of celebrating this day is to strengthen the handloom industry financially and to present it as a brand in the world. Khadi sarees, suits, scarves or kurtas and shirts made of handloom are quite comfortable and are still the first choice of many people today.
 
History of Handlooms: In the year 1905, Lord Curzon announced the partition of Bengal, then on this day the Swadeshi Movement was started with a great public meeting at townhall in Kolkata. National Handloom Day is celebrated on the 7th of August every year in memory of this by the Government of India. On August 7, 2015, the Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) started this day. He had then also announced to take the weavers forward, beginning this day on the Centenary Corridor of the College of Madras in Chennai. Since then, this day is being celebrated every year. August 7, 2022, i.e. today the 8th Handloom Day is being celebrated.
 
Handloom is the heritage of India: Handloom is the heritage of India, so it also has a lot of egos. Kalamkari of Andhra Pradesh, Bandhani of Gujarat, Kanjeevaram of Tamil Nadu and Paithani of Maharashtra are some of the handlooms which are being made from handloom i.e. hand-work. It takes a long time. That is why the handloom industry is said to be an essential part of India's cultural heritage. It is also a means of the employment of a large number of people. Only 70% of women work in this area.  

The trend of handloom: Many celebrities have come forward to promote the trend of Handloom and make it a brand. Many actresses have been seen promoting this by wearing handloom clothes, saris. When this day was first started in the year 2015, the 'I Wear Handloom' campaign was started on social media by Textiles Minister Smriti Irani. The purpose of which was to popularize handloom fabrics and to help the weaving community. After which many types of campaigns were run regarding handloom. The trend of 'Hashtag Saree Twitter' on Twitter also became quite popular.
