Tulsidas Jayanti is celebrated as the birthday of the great saint of Hinduism Tulsidas ji. Tulsidas ji was a great devotee of Lord Shri Ram and he brought the life of Lord Ram to the people through his compositions. 'Ramcharitmanas' written by him is still read with reverence and devotion. Apart from Ramcharitmanas, Tulsidas ji also wrote a total of 12 other texts, which he wrote in Awadhi language.
Introduction to Tulsidas Ji
Mahakavi Tulsidas was born in 1532 AD in Rajpur village of Uttar Pradesh. Some sources also mention his birth year as 1543 AD. His father's name was Atmaram and mother's name was Hulsi. At the time of birth, the first word that came out of his mouth was 'Ram', due to which he was named 'Rambola'.
Tulsidas was a poet of Sagun Bhakti and spent most of his life in Varanasi. The famous Tulsi Ghat on the banks of the Ganges River in Varanasi is also named after him. He also founded the Sankatmochan Temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman.

Tulsidas' couplets reflect his amazing devotion and knowledge. In one couplet he says:
"Rain holds the drops of water, wants to climb the sky. Without the name of Ram, there is salvation, water reaches the sky."
This means that just as it is impossible to catch a drop of water in the sky, similarly it is impossible to attain salvation without the name of Ram.
In another famous couplet he says:
"Tulsi, love for Ram, equality in the whole world. No attachment, no anger, no fault, no sorrow, after becoming a slave, he crosses the world."
Its meaning is that the person who has affection and equality for Shri Ram and does not have passion, hatred or sadness towards anyone, he overcomes all the troubles of life.
