Kartarpur Sahib is one of the holiest sites of Sikhism. This is the place where Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, spent the last days of his life. Every year millions of devotees come here to pay their respects to Guru Ji. Kartarpur Sahib and Nankana Sahib located in Pakistan are two major sites of Sikhism. Nankana Sahib is about 75 km from Lahore and Kartarpur Sahib is 117 km from Lahore. Devotees going from India to Pakistan first visit Kartarpur Sahib and then go to Nankana Sahib.

Kartarpur Sahib and its distance

Kartarpur Sahib is located in Pakistan's Narowal district and is just 4 kilometers away from the Indian border. Earlier, a long distance had to be covered to go to Kartarpur Sahib and a visa was also required, due to which people had to face many difficulties. But now after the construction of the Kartarpur Corridor, devotees from India can visit this holy place without a visa.

Agreement for Kartarpur Corridor

The Kartarpur Corridor agreement is between the governments of India and Pakistan. This agreement was first signed on 24 October 2019 and has now been extended for five years. With the help of this corridor, devotees can come here without any hindrance and complete their religious journey.

Important information

Although the Kartarpur Corridor is visa-free, pilgrims have to pay a service fee of US$20 from Pakistan. There have been several appeals to remove it, but this fee is still in force. Apart from this, passengers are required to carry their passports with them, although it has to be shown only for identification.

Pre-trip registration

If you are planning to visit Kartarpur Sahib, then first get registered. For this, go to the website and fill the form and upload the required documents. After this, you are given Electronic Travel Authorization through SMS or email, which is necessary for the journey.

Number of devotees

On 9 November 2019, the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan jointly inaugurated this corridor. It was temporarily closed during Corona, but it was restarted on 17 November 2021. In the last 3 years and 4 months, about 3,44,000 devotees have visited Kartarpur Sahib through this corridor. Currently, about 400 devotees come here every day for darshan. The Indian government has requested Pakistan to allow 5000 devotees to visit this place every day and this number should be increased to 10,000 on special days.
