India has 70% of the global tiger population: Global Tiger Day is more special for India because 70% of the global tiger population is found in India. There are only 13 countries in the world where tigers are found, of which 70 per cent are in India only. With the efforts of the Tiger Reserve and Environment Department, India has successfully doubled the tiger population before the 2022 target. There were 1,700 tigers in India in 2010. According to the 2018 census, the number of tigers in the country had reached 2967. India has 51 tiger reserves in 18 states. According to the World Wildlife Fund, there are currently 3,900 tigers around the world.
