Kolkata: The court has approved the anticipatory bail of Rajiv Kumar, former police commissioner of Kolkata, capital of West Bengal, in the Sharda chit fund scam. The High Court has said that Rajiv Kumar will have to cooperate with the CBI and will be present when called. The court directed that the CBI must give notice 48 hours before the appearance.

Earlier, a West Bengal court on Saturday (September 21) dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of IPS Rajiv Kumar. Rajiv Kumar, who headed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed by the Mamata Banerjee government in 2013 to investigate the Saradha scam, is accused of tampering with the evidence in the case. The top court handed over the case to the CBI in May 2014.

Earlier on September 22, the CBI team reached the house of Rajeev Kumar, former Commissioner of Kolkata Police and accused of erasing evidence in the Saradha chit fund scam case. CBI officials reached Kumar's house at number 34 Park Street in the afternoon. Sanjita Kumar, wife of Rajiv Kumar, was questioned by the CBI team there, but Rajiv Kumar was not there at that time.
