Kolkata: Bollywood actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty was scheduled to have a roadshow in Behala in south Kolkata today but had to be canceled. In fact, the local police administration did not allow Mithun Chakraborty's roadshow, which forced it to be canceled at the last minute. BJP supporters cordoned off Parnasree police station for conducting a roadshow.

Mithun Chakraborty was scheduled to do a roadshow in favor of a film actress and BJP candidate from Behala (West) Shrabanthi Chatterjee. Shrabanthi is pitted against veteran Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and state education minister Partha Chatterjee. A large number of BJP supporters gathered in front of Parnshree police station in South 24 Parganas district after the roadshow was not allowed. Apart from Chakraborty Behala (West), BJP candidates from Behala East and another Tollywood actress Payal were also scheduled to do roadshows in favor of the government.

The BJP has alleged that the local police administration has not even allowed party workers in the area to campaign from door to door. BJP leader Santhan Bose criticized the police administration's action and said the police administration is still working under the pressure of Trinamool. Mithun Chakraborty said he will participate in the roadshow only after getting permission. Mithun Chakraborty not only participated in the roadshow wherever he has held roadshows across the state so far, but also encouraged everyone by chanting 'Jai Shri Ram.'
