New Delhi: Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress party, has reached out to leaders from various opposition parties forming the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, expressing concerns over what he alleges are discrepancies in the recently released voting data by the Election Commission (EC).

In a letter addressed to the leaders of the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, Kharge emphasized the need to address these alleged discrepancies to uphold the principles of a robust democracy and the sanctity of the Constitution.

"We must ensure the Election Commission of India's independence and hold it accountable," Kharge asserted in his communication.

Referring to the alliance as the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), Kharge called for collective efforts to safeguard democratic values and ensure the ECI functions independently. He raised suspicions about potential manipulation of final results, pointing out the ruling party's discomfort with the electoral trends.

"It's evident how the Prime Minister and the BJP are reacting to the voting trends, indicating their anxiety over diminishing electoral prospects in the initial phases. A regime intoxicated with power can resort to any means to cling onto authority," Kharge remarked.

He urged the opposition leaders to unite and voice their concerns against these discrepancies, emphasizing their shared goal of preserving democratic norms and constitutional integrity.

Several opposition parties have echoed concerns regarding the EC's delay in releasing polling data.

Kharge shared his letter addressing discrepancies in the voting data and the non-disclosure of registered voters on X platform.

The ongoing parliamentary polls saw voting in 93 constituencies across 11 states and Union territories during the third phase.
