Bengaluru: Amid ongoing protests by students seeking permission from authorities to wear Hijab in classrooms in various Karnataka colleges, BJP state chairman Nalin Kumar Kateel warned on Saturday that the state government will not allow the education system to be 'Talibanized.'
Kateel's comments come as Burqa-clad ladies protested in various parts of the state against the decision to prohibit female students from wearing the 'hijab' (headscarf) in class.
"Such things are out of the question" (wearing Hijab in classrooms). Our administration will take severe measures. People must adhere to the school's norms and regulations. "We will not allow (the education system) to be Talibanized," he told reporters here.
Kateel asserted that integrating religion into educational institutions is wrong, and that what children need is education.
"In schools, there is no place for Hijab or anything like that." The temples of 'Sarasvati' are schools (Goddess of knowledge). "It is the responsibility of the pupils to learn and follow the school's rules," the BJP leader stated.
