K'tka offers 50 pc rebate on pending traffic fines till Feb 11

BANGALORE: Karnataka state government has announced one-time measure of a 50% rebate on fines in e-challans for pending traffic challans across the state. The rebate will be granted to violators only if they pay fines till 11 February,2023.

The state government took the measure of offering 50% rebate on fine in e-challans to clear the backlogged cases. the order was issued by Pushpa V.S., Under Secretary, Transport Department, on February 2.

E-challan cases are those who are booked when violations are caught on traffic surveillance cameras.

As part of the decision made at a meeting on January 27 chaired by Justice B Veerappa, executive chairman of the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, the state issued an order on the 50% rebate.

According to reports, there were more than two crore e-challan cases in Bangalore that might result in fines of up to 500 crore, according to Dr. M.A. Saleem, Special Commissioner (Traffic), Bangalore. It accounts for more than 80% of the unresolved cases of this type in Karnataka.

People in Bangalore can visit the nearest traffic police stations or go to the Bangalore traffic police website to pay their e-challan fine.
