On Tuesday, Hasin Jahan, wife of Delhi Daredevil speedster Mohammad Shami, filed a case of domestic violence against her husband and four of his relatives in Alipore court. Hasin also filed a plea for interim maintenance for her and her daughter, seeking Rs 15 lakh a month from Shami. Jahan mentioned in the petition that she needed Rs 10 lakh to run her family and Rs 5 lakh to raise her daughter.

The magistrate told Hasin's lawyer to serve summons to Shami and others, asking them to reply within 15 days. Earlier, Hasin had lodged a police complaint accusing Shami and his relatives of rape, attempt to murder and mental and physical torture. She had visited Lalbazar and recorded her statement before officers probing the case.

She is believed to have told the officers that she is in possession of several voice clips and screen-shots of messaging services such as WhatsApp and iMessage, which can be used as evidence against her husband. Hasin also met chief minister Mamata Banerjee in the Assembly and spent 15 minutes with her. She later said the chief minister was "kind and sympathetic" towards her and assured her of support. A team from the detective department had visited Shami's ancestral house in Uttar Pradesh and collected statements related to Hasin's allegations.
