NEW DELHI: The police on Friday lodged an FIR against a mysterious person after senior lawyer Harish Salve was allegedly threatened for shielding the director of the film 'Padmaavat' in a current court case, as per reports of news agencies.

Harish Salve attended a phone call on his office landline and was allegedly threatened for speaking in favor of the film, PTI reported.

Police said they are probing the matter.

The Supreme Court on Thursday stayed the ban on the exhibition of 'Padmaavat' imposed by the four state governments such as Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh, permitting for an all-India release on January 25.

A bench of Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra and Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud noticed that the movie was cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification with a U/A certificate for an all-Indian screening keeping in mind the rations of the Cinematograph Act.

Arguing on behalf of the film's director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Salve had argued that the film formed a part of the filmmaker's freedom of speech and expression guaranteed by the Constitution.

A number of fringe groups go up against 'Padmaavat' alleging it distorts history and exhibits the Rajput community in an awful radiance.
