New Delhi: In the midst of the ongoing military actions in Gaza, including both aerial and ground operations led by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a discussion with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi regarding the counter-offensive following the terrorist attacks on October 7. Their conversation also touched upon global efforts to provide much-needed humanitarian aid to the conflict-affected population in Gaza.

Prime Minister Modi shared that, during their talks, both leaders expressed deep concerns about the impact of terrorism, violence, and the tragic loss of civilian lives in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. They underscored the urgent necessity of restoring peace and stability in the region and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian assistance.

President al-Sisi, on his part, emphasized Egypt's unwavering commitment to coordinating regional and international endeavors aimed at achieving a ceasefire. He also warned about the potentially dire humanitarian and security consequences resulting from the ground assault on Gaza. The leaders further expressed their satisfaction with the advancements in bilateral relations and the strong strategic partnership between Egypt and India.

It's important to note that India had sent humanitarian aid to the people of Palestine, which was received in Egypt. The aid was subsequently handed over to the Egyptian Red Crescent for further distribution to Palestine.

Despite these efforts, concerns have been raised by human rights organizations regarding the sufficiency of aid reaching Gaza. With Israel's border crossings to Gaza remaining closed, the Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza serves as the primary channel for delivering essential humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian enclave.
