Legendary Assamese writer Atulananda Goswami is no more

Guwahati:: A Legendary Assamese writer, Atulananda Goswami, died on Wednesday at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital. He was 87.

Since last week, the acclaimed novelist has been receiving treatment at a hospital. The death sent shivers through the state's literary community. Himanta Biswa Sharma, the Chief Minister of Assam, offered his condolences on the death of the acclaimed writer.

"We will never forget his contribution to Assamese literature and society. I pray to God for the eternal peace of the great writer's departed soul and express my heartfelt sympathies to the family during this difficult moment "Sarma said.

The renowned author was born in 1935. In 2006, he received the Sahitya Academy Award for his novel 'Seneh Jorir Ganthi.' 'Namgharia,' 'Hamdoi Pulor Jon,' 'Rajpaat,' 'Polatok,' and 'Ashray' are among his other significant works.

Goswami also received the Kumar Kishore Memorial Award, and in 1992, he received the Katha award for creative writing for his work 'Boliya Hathi.' He was well-known as a short story writer, litterateur, and novelist. Many English, Bengali, and Odia texts were translated into Assamese, as were Assamese texts into English.
