Guwahati: A total lockdown has been announced in 7 cities of Assam to control the corona epidemic. As per the new order, the lockdown will come into effect from 7th July at Golpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Biswath and Morigaon. Due to this, restaurants and shops will remain closed round the clock. At the same time, movement of public and private vehicles will also be restricted.

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority has issued these new guidelines on Tuesday. As per the new order, there will be curfew from 2 pm to 5 am in cities like Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Nalbari, Baksa, Bajli, Kamrup, Darang, Nagaon, Hozai, Tinsukia, Dhemaji, Kachar, Karimganj and Karbi. However, curfew will also remain in the districts where corona cases are now decreasing. In Sivasagar and Dibrugarh districts, intensive vigil will be maintained for the next one week.

Due to this, movement from one district to another will also be restricted. In Assam, people will still be banned from gathering in the sentiment zone. More than 10 people will be able to attend ceremonies like weddings and funerals. In Assam, the total number of infected persons in the state increased to 5,19,834 after 2,640 new cases of corona infection were reported on Monday, while the total death toll after the death of 31 more persons increased to 4,683. Golaghat district reported the highest number of 333 new cases. This was followed by cases in Sonitpur (233), Kamrup Metropolitan (197) and Jorhat (151).
