NEW DELHI: The Lok Sabha will see key legislative actions today, February 3, with several bills and reports scheduled for discussion. However, the presentation of the Joint Committee's report on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, has been postponed again.Â
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to introduce a bill to include the Institute of Rural Management Anand in Gujarat to university status. The new university will be called "Tribhuvan Sahkari University" and will be declared an institution of national importance. The aim is to offer specialized technical and management education focused on the cooperative sector.
This move supports the government's vision of "Sahkar Se Samriddhi" (Prosperity through Cooperation) and seeks to strengthen the cooperative movement across India with a focus on global excellence in research and development.
In addition, the Lok Sabha Secretary General will present two bills that were passed during the Third Session of the Eighteenth Lok Sabha and signed into law by the President.
MP Ravi Shankar Prasad will table the fourth report of the Committee on External Affairs regarding the Ministry of External Affairs' budget for 2024-25. BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy will also submit reports from the Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism, and Culture, focusing on the government's response to recommendations about the functioning of national academies and cultural institutions.
Meanwhile, MP Chandrasekhar Azad staged a protest in front of Baba Saheb Ambedkar's statue at Prerna Sthal, Parliament, over the alleged gang rape and murder of a Dalit woman in Ayodhya. He also filed an adjournment motion seeking a discussion in Parliament. The Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP) have joined in, demanding the issue be addressed.
In the Rajya Sabha, Congress MP Randeep Surjewala has called for a discussion on recent incidents of disrespect toward Babasaheb Ambedkar.
The ongoing budget session of Parliament, which began on January 31, is set to continue until April 4.
