LOS ANGELES: Authorities in Los Angeles (LA) are on high alert following a subway shooting in New York City (NYC) that left 20 people injured.

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro) said in a statement that it is "on heightened alert and is working with its security partners at the local, state, and national levels to monitor threat levels and share information," despite the fact that the Metro system was operating normally. According to the Xinhua news, LA Metro said it will deploy more security staff at transit stations around LA County as a precaution and advised transit riders to report suspicious activity.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) announced in a statement that its Transit Services Bureau was on high alert following the subway attack in New York City on Tuesday, and that resources were being deployed to keep everyone safe.

"Throughout our regions of responsibility, our Explosives Detection K9 teams, Special Assignment Unit, Team Leader Deputies, and Commuter Enhancement Teams are deployed. Our field patrol troops have been briefed on the situation in New York and are patrolling the Metro System in high visibility "According to the police department.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said on Twitter that it was closely monitoring reports of a multiple-victim shooting at a subway train station in Brooklyn on Tuesday morning, noting that the department was in contact with its local, state, and federal partners and that high-visibility patrols were being provided throughout the city, including bus and rail stations.

After New York, LA is the second-largest metropolitan area in the United States.
