New Delhi: The Lok Sabha's Privileges Committee is set to convene a session today to deliberate on allegations of 'misconduct' involving Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a prominent Congress leader who was suspended from his position in the lower house just last week.

Sources revealed that the committee's primary agenda is to examine the alleged accusations against Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the Leader of the Opposition, pertaining to his behavior within the parliamentary chambers.

Sources from within the committee have indicated that another point of discussion will revolve around the absence of a formal complainant in this particular case. Notably, the matter of privilege has been directly brought forward from within the Lok Sabha itself. The esteemed Sunil Singh heads the privilege committee.

The Congress leader's suspension from the Lok Sabha on August 10, citing "intentional and repetitive misconduct," has prompted the subsequent referral of the case to the Privileges Committee.

The suspension proposal for Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a prominent Congress figure within the Lok Sabha, was formally introduced by Pralhad Joshi, the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs.

The House took significant note of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's severe, purposeful, and recurrent misconduct, displaying a flagrant disregard for the House's decorum and the authority of the Chair. In light of this, it was resolved that the matter of his misconduct would be directed to the Committee of Privileges for thorough investigation and subsequent reporting to the House. Until the Committee submits its comprehensive report, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's parliamentary duties will remain suspended.

The resolution garnered unanimous support through a voice vote from the House.
