L&T receives orders worth ₹1,000 to ₹2,500 crore for power business

New Delhi: Larsen & Toubro (L&T), a leading engineering and construction company, has recently secured significant orders worth ₹1,000 to ₹2,500 crore for its power transmission and distribution business. These orders, both from domestic and international markets, highlight L&T's strong position in the industry.

One of the major contracts is a ₹1,000 crore agreement with Power Grid Corporation of India for the construction of a 400kV substation in Odisha. This project aims to strengthen the power infrastructure in the region and meet the growing electricity demands.

Additionally, L&T has been awarded a ₹1,500 crore order by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board for the development of a 220kV substation in Chennai. This initiative will contribute to enhancing the power distribution network in the city and ensuring reliable electricity supply to the residents.

Expanding its presence in the international market, L&T has secured a ₹1,000 crore order from Saudi Electricity Company for the construction of a 380kV substation in Saudi Arabia. This project demonstrates L&T's capabilities in executing large-scale infrastructure projects outside of India.

Furthermore, the company has received a ₹500 crore order from an undisclosed customer in the Middle East for upgrading electrical networks in significant industrial facilities. This contract highlights L&T's expertise in providing comprehensive solutions for enhancing the efficiency and reliability of electrical systems.

L&T's power transmission and distribution business has been witnessing impressive growth in recent years. In the fiscal year 2022-23, the business generated revenues of ₹27,000 crore, representing a substantial 12% increase compared to the previous year.

With an order book value of ₹1.2 trillion, the highest in its history, L&T anticipates further growth in its power transmission and distribution business in the upcoming years. This positive outlook is fueled by the government's commitment to improving the country's power infrastructure, creating ample opportunities for companies like L&T to contribute to India's energy development.

The execution of these orders is expected to take place over the next 3-4 years, further solidifying L&T's position as a key player in the power transmission and distribution sector.
