Kolkata: Preparations for Durga Puja are at its peak in West Bengal. Every year, the famous pandals of Kolkata, the capital of Bengal, have been attracting people with their unique designs. Kolkata's renowned puja committee Shri Bhoomi Sporting Club has prepared a puja pandal on the theme of St Peter's Basilica Church in Vatican City, the holy place of Christians this year. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the puja pandal on Thursday.

There is tremendous enthusiasm among the people about this puja pandal and people are praising decoration of this puja pandal. The club, located in Bidhannagar, is also celebrating 50 years of golden jubilee celebrations. Minister of State and Club President Sujit Bose has informed that more than 100 artisans have built the pandal, which took about 60 days to complete. Last year, puja pandals were built on the theme of Burj Khalifa, which attracted a lot of people.

Vatican City, a city-state surrounded by Rome, Italy, is the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church and home to the Pope. St Peter's Basilica Church – one of the 4 major basilicas in Rome – dates back to the year 1626. The church is one of the holiest temples of the Catholic Church and is an important pilgrimage site. Sujit Bose, the organizer of this puja, has said, "Everyone has heard about Vatican City in Rome, but only a few lucky people have been able to see it by travelling abroad, their desire to go to Vatican City will be fulfilled through our pandal this year." The minister further said that in a span of 60 days, more than 100 artisans have prepared this pandal together.
