BHOPAL: In preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Madhya Pradesh government, led by the BJP, has initiated a significant bureaucratic reorganization, transferring 100 officers from the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Police Service (IPS). This move, outlined in an order released on Friday, encompasses the reassignment of duties for 51 IAS and 49 IPS officers, alongside the relocation of various State Administrative Service (SAS) officers.

Key changes include the appointment of new collectors for Shahdol, Guna, Panna, and Singrauli districts, as well as the introduction of fresh divisional commissioners for Ujjain and Shahdol. Additionally, the government has repositioned superintendents of police (SPs) in Niwari, Damoh, Sheopur, Rajgarh, Dindori, Khandwa, Singrauli, Chhatarpur, Khargone, and Shivpuri districts. New civic chiefs have also been named for Bhopal and Indore.

However, the Opposition Congress has raised objections, alleging that these transfers are politically motivated attempts to influence the electoral outcome. Bhupendra Gupta, Vice President of the MP Congress media cell, asserted that approximately 500 official transfers have occurred in the past two months, with Friday's transfers specifically designed to sway the upcoming elections. He described the transfers as "selections for elections."

In response, MP BJP spokesperson Pankaj Chaturvedi defended the government's actions, stating that the transfers adhere to Election Commission guidelines and are in the best interest of the public. He dismissed the Congress' accusations as unfounded.
