Chennai: In a recent development, the Madras High Court has dismissed a petition challenging the continuation of DMK minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and two other DMK leaders as legislators. This comes after the Supreme Court rebuked him for his remarks on Sanatana Dharma.

While acknowledging that Mr. Stalin's remarks were deemed "wrong," the high court highlighted that he has not been convicted by any court yet.

The 46-year-old DMK leader, who is the son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, faced criticism for his controversial remarks on Sanatana Dharma made last September. His statement, comparing Sanatana Dharma to "malaria and dengue" and advocating for its eradication, stirred considerable controversy.

Following his remarks, multiple police cases were filed against him in various states across the country. Seeking relief, the DMK leader has petitioned the Supreme Court to consolidate these FIRs into a single case.

However, the Supreme Court responded sternly to his plea. Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta admonished him, emphasizing that as a minister, he should be cognizant of the ramifications of his words.

The Supreme Court's remarks underscore the responsibility of public figures like Udhayanidhi Stalin to exercise caution and restraint in their public statements, particularly given their positions of authority.
