Chennai: The Madras High Court has imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakhs against Patanjali Ayurved and Divya Yoga Mandir Trust. Justice CV Karthikeyan issued an order on Thursday prohibiting the use of the company's 'coronil' trademark. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on the defendants. Along with the fine, the court said that they were engaged in earning money by selling immunity boosters for colds, coughs and fever in the name of treatment of corona, taking advantage of the scared people.

The court order states that in the time of this disaster, there are many such organizations which are helping the people selflessly. The defendant handed over the fine to those institutions. Adyar Cancer Institute and Government Yoga and Naturopathy Medical College are two such organizations which are treating people for free. Therefore, five lakh rupees should be provided to each institution.

The court said in the order that the defendants should pay the money to both the institutions by 21 August and a registry should be filed before the High Court by 25 August. The court had already barred the Patanjali company from using the trademark 'coronil' on the plea of Chennai-based company Arudra Engineering Limited.
