Kolkata: A magician trying to attract people drowned in the river Ganga here on Sunday after failing a stunt. A police official informed about the incident and said that the magician Chanchal Lahiri tied his hands and feet with a chain and went into the river with the help of a crane. He wanted to show people that he could come out of the water without any help, but that didn't happen.

The magician is said to be missing since landing in the river. The official said, the incident took place under Howrah Bridge under North Port Police Station area. Police have launched a manoele operation to trace Lahiri with the help of disaster management department. Police sources said that the magician had been allowed to perform the stunt but there was no proper security arrangement.

This is not the first case that 41-year-old Agile Lahiri has tried to show up. He had earlier chained himself twice to get himself back safely into the dam water. The playful Lahiri survived the death in 2013 while showing magic.
