Mumbai: The economic health of the state energy department is not good at all. It is said that due to the non-recovery of outstanding bills at present, the amount has gone up to Rs.73,000 crores. At present, the bottom line is that Maharashtra state power generation company limited (Mahagenco), which produces electricity, has a huge shortage of coal. In fact, the coal stock has been reduced to just one and a half to two days. The Energy Department has stretched out its hands before the Finance Department for help in procuring coal but Finance Minister Ajit Pawar is angry with the functioning of the Energy Department. The matter has now gone to the Chief Minister.

On the other hand, the Energy Department said, "If financial assistance is not provided, Maharashtra can go into darkness at any time. 73,000 crores are not being recovered. The department announced a number of schemes but there was no response. 49,000 crores and the recovery is non-recoverable. 5,684 crores for rural street lights, Rs.1,647 crores for water supply schemes and Rs.7,331 crores for rural development.''

441 crore for street lights of municipalities, municipal corporations and Rs. 98.1 crore for water supply i.e. Rs. 539 crore has not been paid to the Urban Development Department. It is said that the Department of Energy has written to the concerned departments for recovery of all these, but there is no response on payment from there also. As per the information received, Mahagenco, a power generating company in Maharashtra, has been facing an acute shortage of coal. Earlier, there used to be coal stock for seven to 12 days, while now only one and a half to two days of stock is left.
