Mumbai: The Maharashtra government is preparing to bring back Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's sword and metal claws from Britain. Maharashtra's Cultural Affairs Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar is scheduled to visit the UK next month. The aim of the tour is to bring back the sword and claw which were used by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during the war in the 17th century. Mungantiwar said he would visit the UK in June and try to take the matter forward to finalize the MOU and decide the next course of action.

He told that in connection with 'Jagdamba' sword and tiger's claw, discussions had already been held with the British Deputy High Commissioner. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is yet to be signed in this regard. Let us tell you that metal claw is such a sharp weapon, which is designed to hide under the palm. It consists of 4 or 5 curved blades attached to a crossbar. It is also called 'Wagh Nakh'. Shivaji Maharaj used it to kill Afzal Khan, the commander of the Bijapur Sultanate.

On 16 April, the Maharashtra government minister had a meeting with British Deputy High Commissioner for Western India Alan Gemmell and Imogen Stone, Deputy Head of Political and Bilateral Affairs. According to the Cultural Affairs Minister, the 350th anniversary of the coronation of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is being celebrated. Starting from June 2 this year, more than 100 functions will be organized in the state for this event. CM Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, Shivaji Maharaj's descendant Maharaj will also be invited for the function. Efforts are also being made to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the programme, but it has not been finalised.
