Nashik: In The Nasik district of Maharashtra, the cardholders who distribute and buy wheat at ration shops are suffering. The wheat that is reaching the ration shops from the godowns is black, rotten, wet and soiled. People who take this wheat say that it is so bad that even animals are not eating it, but people are forced to eat it.

The wheat have been called from Wheat, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. When wheat was brought from these regions to Maharashtra, it was wet, causing it to rot quickly. The wheat was sourced by the state food and civil supplies department and distributed on the same side to government ration shops.

When questions began to arise over the quality of wheat, orders were issued by the Food and Supplies Department to jointly examine the samples of wheat by the Food Corporation of India and the Quality Controller of the district. However, the supply department says that wheat may be black but is edible.
