In the recent Annual Cleanliness Survey conducted by the Indian Government, Maharashtra emerged as the cleanest state in the country, with Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh following closely behind. The survey also named Indore and Surat as the 'cleanest cities,' while Navi Mumbai maintained its third position.

Notably, Indore received the prestigious title of the cleanest city for the seventh consecutive time, reinforcing its commitment to cleanliness and sanitation. The results of the Central government's cleanliness survey were unveiled on Thursday, with Chandigarh earning recognition for having the best safety standards for sanitation workers under the category Safaimitra Surakshit Shehar. Varanasi was acknowledged as the cleanest "Ganga town."

During the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023 ceremony, President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards to the deserving winners. The event, attended by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and other dignitaries, celebrated the outstanding efforts in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation across the nation.

In the 'best performing states' category of the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023, Maharashtra secured the top rank, with Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh following suit. The awards, initiated in 2016 as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban, covered a wide spectrum, including 4,416 urban local bodies, 61 cantonments, and 88 Ganga towns. The evaluation process involved 1.58 crore online citizen feedback and 19.82 lakh face-to-face interactions, highlighting the extensive public participation in the ranking exercise.
