Mumbai: Two naxalites were killed by security forces in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra last Thursday morning. In the case, a senior police official said, "The encounter took place around 6 am in the forest of Morchul village under Dhanora taluka when a team of C-60 commandos, a special combat unit of Gadchiroli police, and other security personnel were patrolling the area."

At the same time, Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police Ankit Goel said, "Police had received specific information that a group of 25 naxalites had gathered in the forest in Morchul. Seeing the police team, the naxalites started firing at them after which the security personnel also retaliated." According to information received in the case, the rebels fled into the dense forest. He also said, "Later, while searching for the area, the police found the bodies of two naxalites, one of whom was a woman, and other naxal-related materials. Two rebels are yet to be identified. He said the police team is now returning to its base.''

Around two weeks ago also there were reports of an encounter between Gadchiroli naxalites. In fact, four tractors and two tankers were suddenly set on fire by naxalites in Parmili area last Monday, causing loss to millions of people. No report of any person being killed during the same naxal attack was reported. Just before that, in Gadchiroli itself, naxalites attacked a police station with a grenade. However, the grenade did not explode, averting a major accident.
