New Delhi: Preparations have started all over the world to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, but America is a country where even though Mahatma Gandhi has never gone, but his memorials and statues are still here in a big way And his followers include veteran leaders here. Although no official data exists regarding the number of these statues and monuments, PTI has collected information citing available sources.
This information indicates that Mahatma Gandhi has more than two dozen statues in America. Here more than a dozen societies and organizations are associated with Mahatma Gandhi. Noted Indian-American Subhash Razdan told the media in an interview that, "outside India, there are the most monumental and revered statues of Mahatma Gandhi in America." The center was established in (Gandhi Smriti Kendra). It is still working and promoting Gandhi's ideas and education.
On October 2, 1986, for the first time such a large statue of Gandhi was installed in the famous Union Square Park in New York City. The chief of Talanda's The Gandhi Foundation of USA is engaged in the work of installing many statues of Gandhi in America. He was also awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award in 2013.
