Kolkata: The parliamentary panel investigating allegations of cash for query against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has rescheduled its meeting to November 9 for the adoption of its draft report. Initially slated for November 7, the Lok Sabha's Ethics Committee, led by Vinod Kumar Sonkar, aims to finalize the draft report following its inquiry into the charges against Moitra, as raised by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey. The committee is set to recommend necessary actions after completing the investigation.
During the previous committee meeting on November 2, tensions flared as Mahua Moitra appeared before the panel to give her statement and eventually left in frustration. She described the meeting as a "proverbial vastraharan" or disrobing. With BJP members in the majority on the 15-member ethics panel, a stern stance against Moitra is expected, particularly after her allegations of improper and personal questions directed at her during the hearing.
The case revolves around allegations made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who accused Mahua Moitra of posing questions in the Lok Sabha to target the Adani Group on behalf of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for bribes. He claimed that it was Hiranandani who used her login credentials to file questions from different locations, primarily from Dubai. Moitra has acknowledged that Hiranandani used her login details but has vehemently denied any monetary considerations, stating that most MPs share their login credentials with others. The parliamentary panel's eventual findings and recommendations will be crucial in determining the course of action in this controversial case.
