Ahead of the massive 5G rollout in the United States, major airlines such as Emirates, Air India, ANA, and Japan Airlines have indicated that certain flights would be cancelled due to worries that it may interfere with sensitive equipment and endanger passengers' safety.

"Flights to the following US destinations will be suspended from 19 January 2022 until further notice," Emirates stated, citing Boston, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Miami, Newark, Orlando, San Francisco, and Seattle.

The airline will continue to travel to New York JFK, Los Angeles (LAX), and Washington, DC (IAD). Air India would also be unable to conduct a number of flights to the United States.

The Rollout, according to airline operators in the United States, may create "catastrophic disruption" to their travel schedules. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is concerned that the C-band 5G transmissions may interfere with the radar altimeters in some flights, posing a safety risk.

All airlines that operate the Boeing 777 have been informed of the flying limitations. Japan Airlines also cites a Boeing letter, claiming that "5G signals for US mobile phones, which will begin functioning in the US on January 19, 2022, may interfere with the radio wave altimeter installed on the Boeing 777," according to the airline.

AT&T and Verizon, on the other hand, have both declared that they will voluntarily postpone 5G antenna upgrades near certain airports.
