On this matter, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar has condemned Mamata Banerjee's suggestion that she should apologize to the country for this. Javadekar said in a press conference on Friday that Banerjee suggested a referendum on the revised citizenship law under the aegis of the United Nations. He said that the CAA has been passed from the Parliament of the country. There is no other forum in the country bigger than Parliament and there is no provision like holding a referendum. Therefore Banerjee's statement is condemnable and she should apologize to the country. Javadekar said that never before has a Chief Minister said such a thing.
