Kolkata: West Bengal CM and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee has once again attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the occasion of the 34-year-old Emergency imposed in 1975. Mamata Banerjee, the CM of the province, has targeted the Modi government saying the country has been going through a "super emergency" for the past five years.

In a tweet, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee termed the 1975 State Of Emergency declared as "today is the anniversary of the Emergency declared in 1975" The country has been going through a 'super emergency' for the last five years. Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister, imposed an emergency on this day in 1975, which was effective for 21 months till March 21, 1977. The then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed declared a state of emergency under Section 352 of the Indian Constitution at the behest of the then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. It was the most controversial and undemocratic period in the history of independent India. In the Emergency, elections were postponed and civil rights were abolished and arbitrary.
