New Delhi After attending a meeting hosted by Trinamool Congress leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday, Jharkhand Lok Sabha MP Vijay Hansdak stated that Banerjee mentioned two other nams for the presidential elections in addition to Sharad Pawar.
"Apart from Sharad Pawar, Mamta Banerjee cited Farooq Abdullah and Gopalkrishna Gandhi. In this meeting, however, no other party leader offered a position on these two names "Vijay Hansdak, a member of Parliament said.
He indicated that Sharad Pawar, the NCP's supremo, prepare a blueprint for the second meeting, which would take place soon. New names were welcomed and will be considered at the next meeting, he said., adding that only after discussions with the parties' top leaders is it envisaged that an agreement will be considered. Taking to Twitter he wrote, "I am grateful to the leaders of the opposition parties for submitting my name as a candidate for President of India during the conference in Delhi. However, I'd want to emphasise that I've politely denied the nomination request."
Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), had already turned down the Opposition leaders' offer to run for President of India.
Leaders from 17 opposition parties attended a conference hosted by Trinamool Congress leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. It fell on the same day as the presidential election's notification date.
